Automotive Light Sensors - Precision for Your Safety

Modern automotive technology is not just about mechanics - it's primarily about advanced electronics. Car lighting is no longer just a bulb switched on by a button. The proper functioning of lights, maneuver signaling, and communication with other vehicle systems rely on advanced light sensors. These small but crucial components determine whether the driver behind you sees the brake light and whether your path is adequately lit while reversing.

In this category, you'll find a wide range of new sensors responsible for controlling the vehicle's lighting system - essential for passing technical inspections and ensuring safe road travel. EuroFrance stocks parts for brands like Peugeot, Citroën, Audi, and Volkswagen, with prices starting from $6.48.

Why buy light sensors at EuroFrance?

  • Parts can be matched by vehicle VIN (body number) for correct fitment.
  • We'll help you find the right part by original part number (OE).
  • 12-month warranty for new light sensors
  • 30-day warranty for used sensors
  • 25+ years of experience
  • Trusted supplier of parts for French car brands.

How Does the Brake Pedal Position Sensor Work and Why Is It Important?

One of the most important components in any vehicle's safety system is the brake pedal position sensor. Although its name suggests a simple function, in modern cars this component's role is much broader. Its primary task is to activate the rear lights when the brake is pressed - but that's not all.

The brake pedal sensor sends a signal not only to the bulbs but also to the onboard computer (ECU). This information is crucial for active safety systems like ABS, ESP, and hill start assist. If the brake light switch fails, dashboard error lights for traction systems often appear, and the engine may even enter limp mode.

Symptoms of a Faulty Brake Light Switch:

  • No response from brake lights when the pedal is pressed.
  • Brake lights stay on continuously.
  • Problems starting the engine (in cars with keyless systems).
  • Cruise control errors (inability to activate).

Where Is the Reverse Light Switch Located and How to Check It?

Another critical component is the reverse light switch. Its failure is often overlooked until you need to reverse at night in an unlit area. This component is typically screwed directly into the gearbox. Its task is to close the electrical circuit when reverse gear is engaged, activating the rear white lights.

A functioning backup light switch also activates parking assist systems. If you notice that parking sensors do not work after engaging reverse gear, the backup camera does not display an image, and the reverse lights do not come on - the fault likely lies with this small switch in the gearbox.

It's important to remember that the reverse light sensor operates in harsh conditions (vibrations, oil temperature changes in the gearbox), making it a wear part that requires replacement over time. Models like the Peugeot Boxer 2006 or Citroën Jumper 2006 are common examples where this switch may need attention.

What Does the Headlight Leveling Sensor Do?

In newer cars, especially those equipped with xenon or LED headlights, the headlight leveling sensor plays a crucial role. It is usually mounted on the suspension arms. Its task is to monitor suspension deflection and automatically adjust the headlight beam angle. This ensures that even when heavily loaded, the car does not blind oncoming drivers.

Also important in this category is the auto light sensor, often integrated with the rain sensor on the windshield. It is responsible for automatically switching from daytime running lights to low beams when you enter a tunnel or when dusk falls. Modern light sensors enhance driver comfort by eliminating the need to manually control the headlights. You can filter our selection by brand, model, manufacturer, and mounting side to find exactly what you need.

How to Choose the Right Light Sensor for Your Car

Selecting the correct sensor depends on your vehicle's make, model, and the specific function you need to replace. Here are a few tips:

  • Identify the part type: brake light switch, reverse light switch, headlight leveling sensor, or ambient light sensor.
  • Check your vehicle details: brand, model, engine type, and year of production. Our catalogue covers vehicles from Audi A3 and A4 to Peugeot 207 and 407, Renault, Fiat Ducato, Seat, Skoda, and more.
  • Use your VIN: if you're unsure, contact us with your VIN number and we'll help match the exact part.
  • Check the mounting side: some sensors are side-specific (left front, right rear, etc.).

All new light sensors in our range come from manufacturers such as Vika, Borsehung, PSA, Renault, Dacia, and Q Plus+, ensuring reliable quality and correct fitment.
