Fog Lights
Fog Lights - Ensure Visibility in Challenging Conditions
Road safety largely depends on how well you can see your surroundings and how well others can see you. In dense fog, heavy rain, or snowstorms, standard low-beam lighting often proves insufficient - the light reflects off water particles, creating a "white wall" in front of the driver. This is when fog lights become indispensable. At EuroFrance, you'll find a wide selection of front and new fog lights as well as rear fog light assemblies for brands like Volkswagen, Renault, Skoda, Peugeot, Citroën, Audi, Seat, and Dacia - with prices starting from $13.71.

What Are Car Fog Lights For and How Do They Work?
The primary function of this type of lighting is to illuminate the road when visibility is severely reduced. A fog light differs from a standard headlight in its optical design - the lens and reflector are shaped to emit a flat, wide beam. This allows the light to pass beneath the fog layer (which typically hovers a few dozen centimetres above the ground), minimising the blinding "white wall" effect caused by your own headlights.
It's worth noting that front fog lights are not mandatory in every jurisdiction (although they are highly recommended), whereas rear fog lights are required by law in most European countries for every registered car.
When Can You Legally Use Fog Lights?
Many drivers are unsure when it is legal to use additional lighting. Traffic regulations address these situations clearly, and non-compliance can result in a fine - or worse, blinding other road users.
Front fog lights: You can turn them on when reduced visibility limits your sight (fog, rain, snow). In some jurisdictions, regulations also allow their use on winding roads (marked with appropriate signs) from dusk till dawn, even in fair weather.
Rear fog lights: The rules are more restrictive. They may only be activated when visibility drops below 50 metres. Once conditions improve, they must be switched off immediately, as their intense red colour is very fatiguing and blinding for drivers behind you.
Types of Fog Lighting: Front vs. Rear
Although both product groups improve safety in poor weather, they differ significantly in design and purpose:
Front fog lights: Usually mounted low in the bumper, they emit white or selective-yellow light. Their task is to illuminate the road surface and the roadside directly ahead of the vehicle. Popular models in our catalogue include fog lights for the Volkswagen Golf, Polo, and Touareg, as well as the Skoda Octavia, Superb, and Fabia.
Rear fog lights: These emit very strong red light. They often come as a single lamp (usually on the left side) or in pairs. Their sole purpose is to warn approaching drivers of your presence on the road in fog.
How to Choose the Right Automotive Fog Lights
When choosing car fog lights, compatibility with your specific vehicle is the top priority. Even within a single model year, manufacturers may have used different bumper designs and mounting brackets (e.g., sport trim vs. standard). You can filter our catalogue by brand, model, mounting side (left, right, front, or rear), and manufacturer - including parts from Valeo, Magneti Marelli, DPA, and PSA - Citroën / Peugeot - to quickly narrow down the correct fit.
If you need a front fog light, pay attention to the condition of the lens - it must not be cloudy or cracked, as this can cause a vehicle to fail its MOT or roadworthiness inspection. For a rear fog light, checking the housing seal is essential. Moisture entering the unit is the most common cause of contact corrosion and bulb burnout.
Our catalogue includes complete fog light assemblies as well as individual mounting components. While most of our stock consists of new parts, used fog lights are also available as a budget-friendly alternative.
Common Fog Light Failures
Burnt-out bulb (often H1, H3, or H11).
Damaged fuse or relay.
Corrosion of the electrical wiring (a common issue when rear fog lights lose their seal).
Mechanical damage to the lens (from road debris, especially on front lights).
