A/C Compressors - Essential Information
Car air conditioning is a crucial system ensuring travel comfort regardless of weather conditions. At the heart of this system is the A/C compressor, also known as the air conditioning compressor. This component circulates the refrigerant, raising its pressure and temperature so the vehicle's interior can be cooled effectively. At EuroFrance we stock new compressors from manufacturers such as Sanden, Delphi, Valeo and DENSO, covering popular brands like Renault A/C compressors, Peugeot A/C compressors, Citroën A/C compressors and more.
Why buy A/C compressors at EuroFrance?
- Parts can be matched by vehicle VIN (body number) for correct fitment.
- We'll help you find the right part by original part number (OE).
- 12-month warranty for new A/C compressors
- 30-day warranty for used compressors
- 25+ years of experience
- Trusted supplier of parts for French car brands.
How Does an A/C Compressor Work?
The compressor is driven by the vehicle's engine via a drive belt. Its main task is to force the refrigerant through the circuit, raising base pressure so the refrigerant can reach the condenser, expansion valve and evaporator before delivering cool air to the cabin. Because of this demanding role, air conditioning compressors are among the most frequently replaced parts in the climate-control system - particularly on high-mileage models such as the Xsara, 206, Megane 1 or Berlingo 1.
Types of Air Conditioning Compressors
There are three common compressor designs:
Piston compressors - use one or more pistons. Fixed-capacity models pump a constant volume of refrigerant, while variable-capacity versions adjust output to the system's current demand.
Vane compressors - rely on a rotor fitted with vanes that collect and compress the refrigerant, releasing it under high pressure.
Scroll compressors - employ interlocking dynamic and static spirals to compress the refrigerant between them, delivering high efficiency and smooth operation.
How to Choose the Right A/C Compressor
Selecting the correct compressor depends on your vehicle's make, model and engine. The quickest way is to match by OE part number - stamped on the original unit or listed in your service manual. Alternatively, you can filter our catalogue by brand (Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, Nissan, Opel, Fiat, Dacia, Volkswagen), model, or manufacturer (Sanden, Delphi, Valeo, DENSO, PSA). If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll confirm compatibility.
Repair, Rebuild or Replace?
When an air conditioning compressor fails, you have three options: a targeted repair of the specific fault, a full rebuild that replaces all worn internals, or fitting a replacement unit. Our range of compressor parts supports both repair and rebuild work, while new A/C compressors are available for a straightforward swap. Used compressors are also in stock as a budget-friendly alternative.
